Two Trees sat down with Mary-Grace Tate, Director of Development and Marketing at Post Company, a multidisciplinary design studio, to talk about the studio’s return to DUMBO, the collaborative spirit of their workspace, and how they’re shaping spaces that blend hospitality, design, and storytelling.

Q: Can you start by introducing yourself and Post Company?

Mary-Grace: Post Company is a multidisciplinary design studio. We work across interior design, architecture, branding, and development. Our team is about 30 people, and we focus on projects in both hospitality and residential spaces.

Q: Tell us about some of your projects.

Mary-Grace: We’ve been lucky to work on a wide range of projects. In New York, you can visit some of our restaurants like Raf’s and Huda in Williamsburg — those were really fun to bring to life.

Upstate, we designed Inness, a beautiful retreat built on an old golf course that spans acres of open land. We recently opened Hotel Saint Augustine in Austin with Bunkhouse, and we have a hotel in Carmel called La Playa that’s absolutely gorgeous. There’s a lot of exciting work happening right now.

“DUMBO really strikes that balance between Brooklyn’s creativity and a Manhattan-style energy. You get that city feel without ever crossing the bridge.”

Q: You mentioned the products you design. Can you tell us more about that?

Mary-Grace: A lot of our product design grew naturally out of our hospitality projects. When we needed custom pieces — lighting, furniture, hardware — we collaborate with makers to create them. Some of those collaborations continued beyond the original project.

One of our favorites is with Roll & Hill. We designed our Bell Pendant for Inness upstate, and it’s now part of their collection. It’s hanging right here in our office, too.

Our space functions partly as an office and partly as a showroom. It lets clients see how these pieces work in real settings, which is such a powerful part of the design process.

Q: What brought you back to Dumbo?

Mary-Grace: When it came time to find a new space, DUMBO just made sense. The neighborhood has grown so much. There are so many design studios, architecture firms, and product showrooms here now.

When we connected with the Two Trees team, the process was seamless. We toured so many beautiful, light-filled spaces surrounded by great coffee shops, restaurants, and parks. It felt perfect for our team, most of whom live in Brooklyn, and our clients love visiting too.

Q: What does being in DUMBO mean for your business and your team?

Mary-Grace: Being in DUMBO gives us a real sense of place. It’s such a recognizable name in the design world. When people hear we’re based here, they know it means something. It’s become a landmark neighborhood for creative industries.

For our team, it’s incredibly convenient and familiar. Most of us live in Brooklyn, and a lot of us have friends or past coworkers who are also based in DUMBO. It feels like a true creative community, which makes it a really energizing place to work.

Q: What makes your new office unique?

Mary-Grace: Our office was designed to encourage collaboration. The main workspace has this open, industrial feel. We use modular tables that can expand as our team grows. It has that flexible, “factory floor” energy that we love.

Around that core, we’ve created a series of parlors — smaller, more residential-feeling spaces where we meet with clients or gather as a team. Each one has vintage furniture like old farmhouse tables, beautiful wooden chairs, and we showcase products we’ve designed over the years.

We also have a dedicated material library, which has become a big part of how we work. It’s a space where we can lay everything out, pin ideas to the walls, and really experiment. The whole office feels like a reflection of who we are — creative, practical, and always evolving.

Q: If you could describe the vibe of your office in three words, what would they be?

Mary-Grace: Inviting, collaborative, and inspiring.

The space is open and egalitarian. No one’s tucked away in an office. There’s room for people to sit together, brainstorm, and create. You feel that energy the moment you walk in.

Q: Finally, how would you describe the essence of Post Company?

Mary-Grace: We’re designers and architects who build beautiful spaces and tell rich narratives through design.
