Two Trees sat down with Katie and Brandon Conovitz, founders of Twelve (who also happen to be married) to talk about their creative journey, nearly two decades in DUMBO, and how the neighborhood’s energy continues to inspire their global work.

Q: Can you start by introducing yourselves and telling us what Twelve is all about?

Katie: I’m Katie Conovitz, Founder and CEO of Twelve.

Brandon: And I’m Brandon Conovitz, President of Twelve.

Katie: We build packaging and merchandise for some of the world’s most iconic brands. Our work spans across industries, from beauty to lifestyle, creating thoughtful, high-quality design solutions for clients all over the world.

Q: You’ve been in Dumbo for a long time. What first drew you here, and how has it shaped your business?

Brandon: I first discovered Dumbo around 2003 or 2004. Back then, we were living in the Meatpacking District, and I’d ride my bike over the bridge to explore the neighborhood. It looked very different then, raw and industrial, but it had this creative energy that immediately stood out.

Katie: We realized early on that DUMBO was a place where we wanted to both build our business and raise our family. We’re coming up on twenty years of Twelve, and we’ve been in DUMBO for about sixteen of those. It’s really been home for us in every sense. Both personally and professionally.

We started out in a small space that perfectly fit our “small but mighty” team. As we grew, our office grew too. Two Trees was always there to accommodate our next chapter. They made the process easy and flexible, which allowed us to stay rooted here as we expanded.

Q: How has being in DUMBO influenced the way your team works and the clients you attract?

Katie: From a working-parent perspective, it was perfect. We literally lived across the street from our office! But beyond that, DUMBO’s energy has always drawn people in. Clients love coming across the bridge for meetings, grabbing coffee or lunch nearby, and exploring the neighborhood before or after.

We’ve also been able to attract and retain incredible talent — people who live in Brooklyn or lower Manhattan and want to be part of a creative community. DUMBO has always been that kind of enclave — inspiring, convenient, and full of momentum.

Brandon: We like to say we’ve raised four kids here. Our fifth is the business. We’ve really grown up alongside the neighborhood.

“This Brooklyn enclave continues to influence the energy we bring to everything we do. DUMBO keeps us grounded creatively, even as our reach grows internationally.”

Q: What do you love most about working in DUMBO day to day?

Katie: The energy. It’s creative and vibrant but still feels calm compared to Midtown or SoHo. You can breathe here.

When we first moved to DUMBO, not many people even knew where it was. Now, clients actually want to come to us because it’s such a fun neighborhood to visit. On nice days, I’ll take a walk through the park or bring our dogs to the office. It’s easy, it’s beautiful, and it always feels alive.

Brandon: And if you want pizza, you’ve got options! Front Street Pizza is my go-to. It’s a staple, the guys there are the best, and there’s never a line. It’s those little things that make the area feel like home.

Q: What projects or collaborations are you excited about right now?

Katie: We’re entering our twentieth year in business, which is really exciting. Twelve started here in Brooklyn, but we now have offices in Paris, London, and Hong Kong, and our client base spans the globe.

We’ve had the privilege of working with some of the world’s most recognizable brands across beauty, lifestyle, and beyond. This Brooklyn enclave continues to influence the energy we bring to everything we do. DUMBO keeps us grounded creatively, even as our reach grows internationally.
