In this interview with Fishs Eddy founder Julie Gaines, we explore how the iconic home goods store, known for its humorous and historically rooted restaurant ware, chose DUMBO for its first expansion in nearly 40 years.

Q: Can you introduce yourself and tell us about Fishs Eddy?

Julie: My name is Julie Gaines and I am the founder Fishs Eddy. Fishs Eddy is a home goods store with a unique narrative. It’s quirky, definitely fun, and great quality. If I may say so myself, it’s become a landmark destination. So it’s pretty great, and definitely with a great sense of humor

Q: How does Fishs Eddy fit into the DUMBO community?

Julie: We always meant to come to Brooklyn. It was just natural. DUMBO is filled with so much history, and our dishes are rooted in so much history of American restaurant ware, so it was a great fit.

Q: What do you think is the most underrated product in the store?

Julie: Our skyline pattern. It’s very popular but I still think it’s underrated because it’s so fantastic. It’s one of our oldest patterns. I never get tired of it, and I get tired of things easily.

Q: How would you describe Fishs Eddy in three words?

Julie: Irreverent, snarky, and beautiful.
